Dev Raturi’s story began in the simple surroundings of a village in Uttarakhand’s Garhwal mountains, where life was deeply connected to nature, traditions, and community. Growing up with limited resources but surrounded by rich spiritual and cultural values, he learned the importance of kindness, hospitality, hard work, and staying grounded.

The mountains were more than just his home—they shaped the person he would become. Festivals, traditions, temples, and everyday village life quietly taught him lessons about humility, service, resilience, and pride in his roots. Years later, these same values would help him carry and share Indian culture with people around the world.

Some lives move in a straight line. His didn't. It moved like a mountain road — switchbacks, false summits, the occasional drop that should have ended things. What follows is not a story of survival. It is the record of a man who decided, ten separate times, to build rather than retreat.

    The Himalayan Beginning · Where Values Were Born

    Born in 1976 in a village in the Tehri Garhwal hills, he grew up close to the land, raised on stories and rituals he didn't yet know would matter later. He idolised Bruce Lee the way landlocked boys often idolise people who seem to live in a bigger world. In 1998, an audition in Delhi didn't go his way — and a different, longer road opened instead.

    <p>Somewhere between managing kitchens and learning Mandarin, he became a working actor — proof that reinvention has no expiry date. Since his 2015 debut, he’s appeared in 35+ productions, including A Gilded Game (2025), Iron Sky: The Ark (2019) and My Roommate Is a Detective (2020).</p>

    <p>CCTV described him simply as “a bridge between two ancient civilisations.” Since then, his story has reached Chinese state media, international press, and — in 2019 — a seventh-grade textbook used in schools across Xi’an and Beijing.</p>
